■ About ‘OrphanAid Africa’

‘OrphanAid Africa’ is a non-governmental and non profit-making organization; it dedicates its work to orphans and vulnerable children in Ghana (West Africa) helping them to grow up in a healthy and protected environment and also offering them education and a quality medical assistance.

We are of the opinion that attending children in institutions has always to be the last measure to be taken, but when this becomes necessary it should be in a controlled and secure environment. The support is only given to those who really need it and our motto is “every child deserves a family”; this is why we emphasize very much on protecting and supporting families and communities, as well as on helping the civil society to maintain family ties. ■ Our cooperation

We put all our efforts into cooperating with the most disadvantaged people and this is the reason why the Lopesan Hotel Group has been supporting the organization for several years by placing at the hotel receptions special boxes for donations. These boxes are being used by hotel guests and employees to make solidary donations which are sent to the NGO integrally.

■ The Centre in Ayeniah

One of the solidary projects of ‘Orphanaid África’ is helping the community of protected families in the village of Ayeniah, situated at a distance of about 40 kilometres from Accra, the capital of Ghana. Thanks to the last donation made by the Lopesan Hotel Group the community has been able to receive a water supply net. Now there is also offered medical assistance to the community and basic scholar education for children and adolescents who learn how to read, write and to cultivate land to obtain food. The centre has specialised in attending children who have been infected with the Aids virus and those who suffer from brain paralysis. 

■ Solidary commitment

In the past Carmen Delia Pérez was part of the management team in several hotels of the Lopesan Group. In 2005 this Lopesan employee decided to go to Ghana where she cooperated as a voluntary worker for ‘OrphanAid Africa’. At Lopesan we are proud of her courageous and solidary decision to dedicate her life to those who are in need. And additionally, due to her work in Africa we could also be sure that our donations reached their destiny.

This extraordinary woman comes from the village of Ingenio (Gran Canaria) and worked several years dedicating her life to the children of the community in Ayeniah. In this African village Carmen Delia was happy cooperating with the humanitarian project offering medical assistance and scholar education to the children. In the centre there is also a programme for health prevention and a farm school for sustainable agriculture. In the village of Ayeniah Carmen Delia was like a mother for the little ones and actually everybody knew her as ‘queen mother’ because of her dedication to the children.

■ Our commitment is to continue with our support

At Lopesan Hotels & Resorts we are continuing with our commitment to cooperate with projects like this one to fight poverty and to support volunteers like Carmen Delia working unselfishly for the poorest people who need help. More than that, some of our employees have been motivated to follow her example and have decided to offer support and help to this solidary organization.
