■ The most important tourist company of the Canary Islands consolidates its commitment for environmental protection by making significant investments in renewable energies.
■ Due to its environmental policy Lopesan has situated itself among the first companies in Spain offering solutions for the climate change.
We have proved it by deeds, that is, by important investments in modern technology contributing that way to the planet’s sustainable development. At the Lopesan Group we have succeeded in situating ourselves among the most important tourist companies in Spain providing effective solutions for the climate change.
Conscious about the group’s responsibility to protect nature and the environment where the business activities are carried out, during the last four years the different companies of the Canarian business group have made strong investments, basically in renewable energies, energetic saving, residue management and introducing new technologies to reutilize recycled water for green zone watering.
The Canarian company’s aim is not only to reach the best possible customer satisfaction, but today the goals for the daily management of hotels and production centres are also focused on environmental policies. In the following we give you a few examples for it:
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
The hotels of the Canarian chains Lopesan Hotels & Resorts and IFA Hotels & Resorts are operating with the environmental management system, the ISO 14.001, a voluntary certificate of environmental auditing which distinguishes those companies that have adopted ecological criteria for their internal management. The hotels have also got a quality management system, the ISO 9.001.
RENEWABLE ENERGIES
In 2007 the Lopesan Group, through its two hotel chains - Lopesan Hotels & Resorts and IFA Hotels & Resorts -, invested four million Euros installing innovative solar plants producing thermal and photovoltaic solar energy on the roof tops of its different hotels in the south of Gran Canaria and the one in Fuerteventura; these solar plants will produce 2,5 mega vats of electricity per year avoiding the emission into the atmosphere of an average of 1.200 tons of CO2 per year.
RESIDUE MANAGEMENT
Almost half of the garbage produced in the certified hotels is recycled. What is taken to the rubbish dump is mostly organic waste.
DIFFUSION
Lopesan is cooperating with the Canarian Institute for Technology (ITC) in the diffusion to other tourist companies in the Canaries of the advantages offered by saving energy and employing renewable energies in hotel management.
APPRECIATION
Every year the most important European tour operators award the hotels of the Lopesan Hotel Group brand for the efforts made in environmental issues and its management transparence.
GOLF
Lopesan Meloneras Golf it the only course of the Canary Islands using a kind of grass tolerating the high salinity level of sewage water which is used to water the facilities. In Spain there are only seven golf courses employing this type of grass that additionally needs less water quantity to be maintained in perfect conditions.
WATER
The hotels have got special sewage systems to recycle water from sinks and use it again to water the garden areas.
GREEN ZONES
In the two hotel complexes projected and built by Lopesan in the south of Gran Canaria (the other hotels owed by the company have been purchased from foreign firms) the garden areas occupy much more space than required by the tourist regulations in force. The Lopesan Costa Meloneras Hotel has got the largest surface reserved to garden areas in a hotel, at least on the island of Gran Canaria: 76.000 square metres.
